And 2015 already boasts more than its fair share of goofy cow-and-dairy headlines. Here’s just a small sampling: No. 4: Pro-Bowl Farmer Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson made some new fans in the ag industry when he told ESPN the Magazine that “I probably identify more as a farmer (than a football player).” Despite signing a $39 million contract last year, Nelson said he spends his off season working up to 12 hours a day at his family farm. Nelson said he likes to drive a wheat combine or help herd the 1,000 cattle that reside on his family’s farm in Riley, Kan. “Working cattle is my favorite farm duty,” Nelson said, making the hearts of farm girls everywhere flutter. No. 3: A Tale of Two Prices: Across Europe, frustrated dairy farmers staged protests as the price of milk plummeted so low that a pack of gum could cost more than a gallon of their product. Some farmers blocked highways with milk tankers; others dumped milk on their heads, mimicking the Ice Bucket Challenge craze of 2014. Just as those rallies were peaking in August, however, Austin-based Whole Foods added insult to injury. …
