Suspended by Notre Dame, Jalen Guyton ‘looking into’ Ohio State

This could certainly add a little off-field subplot to what will already be the Notre Dame-Ohio State Fiesta Bowl ratings bonanza. Earlier today, Notre Dame confirmed in a statement that wide receiver Jalen Guyton has been suspended from the football program. “University of Notre Dame freshman wide receiver Jalen Guyton has been suspended from all football-related activities pending the resolution of a private University process,” the official position on Guyton read. Regardless of the specific issues that led to the suspension, speculation is swirling that Guyton has been given a release from his Notre Dame scholarship “to explore other options” in continuing his collegiate career. Specifically, 247Sports.com is reporting, “Ohio State is one school Guyton is looking into as his next destination.” A three-star member of the Irish’s 2015 recruiting class, Guyton was rated as the No. 56 receiver in the country coming out of high school in Allen, Tex. Guyton, who took a redshirt his true freshman season, took a visit to and received an offer from the Buckeyes prior to signing with the Irish. Should Guyton transfer, he’d be forced to sit out the 2016 season because of NCAA transfer rules, then would have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2017. OSU, for what it’s worth, has received a verbal commitment from a single receiver in a 2016 class that’s currently rated No. 3 in Rivals.com’s rankings.
