Buckeyes’ Urban Meyer reiterates lack of interest in jump to NFL

7:13 PM ET 0 Shares print Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Wednesday that he’s been contacted by an NFL team but told the team he was not interested. Meyer, speaking in Tempe, Ariz., at the Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl media day ahead of Ohio State game against Notre Dame on New Year’s Day, was asked by a reporter if the NFL had expressed interest. “I was reached out to and asked if I would be interested, and I’m not,” said Meyer. Asked specifically if the team that reached out was the Cleveland Browns, Meyer said: “I’m not going there. I’m just saying I was reached out.” Meyer had also earlier this month issued a statement saying he was not interested in any other job after a report surfaced that the Browns would go after him. “I really enjoy where I’m coaching and who I’m coaching,” Meyer said Wednesday. “At this point, my son’s in high school. We’re where we need to be. I really love my athletic director, Gene Smith, and I think the future is bright. We’re recruiting well. I’m very happy where I’m at. “The NFL, Chip Kelly is one of my closest friends, Greg Schiano is one of my closest friends,” Meyer said, both of them fired in the NFL after college success. …
