Elliott leads Ohio St. in Fiesta

Ezekiel Elliott scored four touchdowns against Notre Dame. (USATSI) Ohio State’s senior class is now tied for being the winningest class in college football history. After knocking off Notre Dame 44-28 in the Fiesta Bowl, Ohio State’s seniors will finish their careers having won 50 games. That ties the mark set by Boise State’s 2011 senior class. Unfortunately for Ohio State, these seniors, and a lot of their key juniors, won’t be back next season, so this final win may have served as a last ride for the Ohio State team we’ve come to know the last few years under Urban Meyer. Still, something tells me the Buckeyes will be just fine moving forward. Story of the Game: Early on, it was the losses of key players. First, Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith left the game with what appeared to be a left knee injury, as he had to be carted to the locker room, and later appeared on the sideline in crutches. Then, later in the first quarter, Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa was ejected from the game for targeting. After getting past those initial shocks to the system, the real story of this game was the efficiency of the Ohio State offense, particularly on first and second down. Without Smith and so many other key players, the Notre Dame defense just couldn’t get off the field. …
