On his second run through the 40-yard dash, Jones pulled up near the finish line and was favoring one of his hamstrings. Less than 20 minutes later, it was reported by NFL Network and NFL.com that Jones was out for the remainder of the day because of a hamstring injury. Unofficially, Jones ran times of 4.85 and 4.83 seconds in the 40-yard dash. A 6-foot-5, 250-pound junior, Jones did not get to throw a single pass during the on-field work at the Combine. Jones stepped in for the injured J.T. Barrett in the Michigan game at the end of the 2014 season, and after finishing off the rivalry game with a victory, he led the Buckeyes to a 59-0 win over the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2014 Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis. Then, Jones completed 18 of his 35 attempts for 243 yards with one touchdown and an interception, and ran for 43 yards on 17 carries in a 42-35 upset of the nation’s top-ranked team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 1, 2015. In the Buckeyes’ 42-20 win over the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship Game, Jones completed 16 of his 23 throws for 242 yards and one touchdown against one interception, and added 38 yards and one score on 21 carries.
