Ohio State football donating $10,000 to Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey recovery

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State football team will donate $10,000 to the American Red Cross to help with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Houston. The money will come from the players and coaches. Ohio State said in a news release that the players will each donate some money and Urban Meyer and the coaches will add the rest to bring the total to $10,000. Ohio State said the idea came from the players.  Seven players from Texas are on the team. Cornerback Kendall Sheffield, a junior college transfer who is a co-starter at cornerback after joining the Buckeyes this season, is from the Houston area. Meyer said Tuesday that Sheffield’s family was stuck in its home but was safe during the massive flooding in the area. Also, both Ohio State and Indiana players will wear “Houston Strong” decals on their helmets for the season opener Thursday night in Bloomington.…
