COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State needs Texas. Texas probably isn’t good enough. So Ohio State probably isn’t going to the College Football Playoff. The Tuesday night rankings proved that, because even 59-0 may not save the Buckeyes this time. Four years ago, a 59-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship pushed the Buckeyes to the No. 4 spot in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State entered championship weekend at No. 5 and moved into the playoff because No. 3 TCU won and dropped anyway. That was TCU, not Oklahoma. And that was a TCU team that tied for the Big 12 title, a conference that not play a conference title game then. Now, Oklahoma is No. 5. Ohio State is No. 6.
