EAST LANSING — Nick Ward had a career first half on Wednesday against Northwestern, scoring 21 points in 16 minutes to help put away the Wildcats early. But in the second half, things got a little testy. Jockeying for position in the post with 12 minutes left, Ward caught Northwestern’s Barret Benson with an elbow and was whistled for an offensive foul. Then, with 8:25 left, Ward shoved Northwestern’s Aaron Falzon as the two got tangled up underneath and was called for another foul.
