Since Jan. 2 when Ryan Day took over for Urban Meyer as the Ohio State head coach, there has been plenty of turnover on the Buckeye coaching staff. One name that many Scarlet and Gray fans thought they might hear when hirings were announced was Marcus Freeman. Freeman played linebacker for the Buckeyes from 2004 to 2008 before a brief NFL career. Following his retirement due to an enlarged heart condition, Freeman returned to Ohio State for one year as a graduate assistant and defensive quality control coach. He has made a quick rise through the coaching ranks and currently is the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for another former Buckeye, Luke Fickell, at Cincinnati.
