How Ohio State basketball’s 2018 recruiting class is on pace with its 2007 class

COLUMBUS, Ohio — For two straight seasons Ohio State men’s basketball has overachieved under its head coach Chris Holtmann. The Buckeyes combined for a 45-24 record — 23-15 in the Big Ten — and two trips to the second round of the NCAA tournament. He and his coaching staff did this despite playing with a depleted 2019 senior class and the leftovers of Thad Matta’s final years. Ohio State was not one of the better teams in the Big Ten this season as it finished with an 8-12 record and the surprising success of last year gave fans unrealistic expectations for year two. Year two of the Holtmann era should be considered the foundation for what this program’s potential could be.
