
COLUMBUS, Ohio — No Ohio State football player has accounted for more all-purpose yards in a game or season than Keith Byars. A foot injury denied Byars the chance to follow up his dominant 1984 season. But the running back’s greatness stood up over time, and on Tuesday, he was announced as one of the new inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame. A total of 17 players and two coaches will go in with the 2020 class. Former Buckeyes James Laurinaitis and Chris Ward were also finalists but were not elected. Byars is the 26th Ohio State player enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Byars ranks fifth in Ohio State history with 3,200 rushing yards — over half of them coming in his All-American and Big Ten MVP 1984 season.
