
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The more stars affixed to a recruit’s name, the brighter — and earlier — that player is expected to shine. Nicholas Petit-Frere’s commitment to Ohio State football erupted like a supernova on National Signing Day in February 2018. The Buckeyes, stinging from Ohioan Jackson Carman’s commitment to Clemson earlier in the cycle, answered by landing the top-ranked tackle in the country and No. 7 player overall. Petit-Frere’s recruitment had transpired mostly in the dark. So has his Ohio State career to this point. His first two years in the program included one redshirt season, one start and plenty of questions about when the Tampa, Florida product would fulfill the potential indicated by those recruiting stars.
