Chase Young favored to continue Ohio State’s stranglehold on NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year


COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State football alum winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year has become one of the safest bets in sports. Buckeyes have won three of the last four trophies: San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa in 2016, New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore in 2017 and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa last season. After Ohio State products Chase Young and Jeff Okudah were the top two defensive players selected in last week’s NFL Draft, the odds of a fourth trophy in five years went up. Young, now of the Washington Redskins, opened as the Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite, per DraftKings Sportsbook, at 2/1 odds. Okudah, now with the Detroit Lions, has the fifth-best odds at 16/1.
