
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Tyreke Johnson committed to Ohio State football at the end of a stellar two-year recruiting surge for then-cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs. Between the 2017 and ’18 classes, the Buckeyes added a top-three NFL Draft pick in Jeff Okudah, a fourth-round pick and immediate contributor in Kendall Sheffield and a projected first-rounder next year in Shaun Wade. And then there’s Johnson, whose relationship as high school teammates with Wade at Jacksonville, Florida’s Trinity Christian played a role in him joining the Buckeyes. Johnson was a five-star prospect, same as those other three. Yet after a redshirt season in 2018, Johnson played only 57 defensive snaps over six games last season, per the Eleven Warriors tracker.
