Ohio State football can let freshman wide receivers ease into the spotlight: Buckeye Take

COLUMBUS, Ohio — No Ohio State football position group suffered more from the COVID-19 shutdown of spring practice and the resulting unorthodox offseason than the quarterbacks. The Buckeyes’ freshman receivers come in a close second in that regard. No one doubts the talent of the four top-100 prospects OSU brought into its receivers room as early entry freshmen. However, one can reasonably doubt whether the three practices in which Julian Fleming, Gee Scott, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Mookie Cooper participated were enough to prepare them for early rotational roles this fall. The offseason was not a complete zero for the frosh receivers. All went through Mickey Marotti’s strength and conditioning program. Depending on their individual diligence during the shutdown, they could be physically ready to hold up to the Big Ten Conference’s physical demands.
