
COLUMBUS, Ohio — If diligence gives college football the best chance to persevere through COVID-19 this fall, creativity serves as the backup. For one season, under extraordinary circumstances, we can set aside convention and tradition — even when that tradition dwarfs all others in the Big Ten Conference. We don’t yet know what the league will do about its 2020 schedule after lopping off the non-conference games. We do know any season that starts could stop — perhaps briefly, perhaps permanently — due to the coronavirus pandemic’s unpredictable nature. For that reason, it makes sense to move The Game — Ohio State’s annual rivalry battle with Michigan — up front in any revamped Big Ten schedule for 2020.
