College football: Ohio Stadium capacity trimmed to 20 percent for Buckeyes games this year


COLUMBUS — Ohio Stadium’s capacity has been trimmed by 82,224. The 102,780-seat cathedral will only have room for 20,556 fans in 2020. Ohio State’s athletic department began emailing season ticket holders Tuesday, informing them that the Horseshoe’s capacity will be capped at 20 percent, fans will be required to wear masks, and staples such as tailgating and the marching band’s Skull Session will not be held. “While no final decision has been made regarding the 2020 football season, the Department of Athletics has been working diligently with university leaders, public health experts and government officials to create game day plans that protect the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, staff, faculty and fans,” the email said. The season-ticket renewal rate was 88 percent, or 44,320 tickets. Season-ticket holders have been asked to opt-in or opt-out of 2020 tickets by Monday.
