COLUMBUS, Ohio — Grad transfer running back Trey Sermon brought needed experience and big-play upside to Ohio State football’s backfield. However, he could not bring his number with him from Oklahoma. Sermon wore No. 4 with the Sooners, but that number on offense had already been given to Buckeye freshman receiver Julian Fleming. (Another freshman, cornerback Lejond Cavazos, wears the number on defense.) Sermon apparently has his solution. Along with an Instagram post of him wearing the No. 8 Friday night, Sermon wrote “Double up” with an emoji of an 8 ball. The No. 8 has not been worn by a scholarship offensive player since tight end J.T. Moore in 2014. Sermon rushed for 2.076 yards and 22 touchdowns over 37 games in three seasons at Oklahoma.
