Buckeyes' No. 2 ranking reflects coaches' respect for Ryan Day

Ohio State was the No. 2 ranked in the country when the 2020 preseason Coaches Poll was released last week. The Buckeyes, who trail only No. 1 Clemson in the rankings, received 17 first place votes and are only 34 points behind the Tigers for the top spot. While much of that ranking has to do with the talent the Scarlet and Gray have returning, and there is plenty of it, being voted into the No. 2 spot also shows the respect that developed for head coach Ryan Day from his peers over the last year. Let’s go back to August of 2019. When last season’s preseason Coaches Poll was released, Ohio State ranked No. 5 in the country.
