Ohio State football target Payton Kirkland, 2023 OT, didn’t receive Buckeyes’ offer until Tony Alford got to know him: Recruiting Roundup


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Class of 2023 offensive tackle Payton Kirkland had played a little bit of football before high school, but not at the level he’s currently at right now. He has a basketball background, and he plays in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League; he wasn’t able to play this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kirkland even has an unofficial hoops offer from Tulsa, and if he had an opportunity to play both sports on a dual-sport scholarship, he would. But in his freshman season, Kirkland started on varsity as a left tackle and flashed his potential. Now, Ohio State is one of 28 offers for the sophomore at Dr. Phillips High in Orlando, Florida, with Florida State, Michigan State and LSU being some others.
