ROSEMONT, Ill. — It was far from a normal Friday morning at 8 a.m. on the corner of Park Place and Balmoral Avenue in the northern suburb of Chicago. The typically quiet area outside of the Big Ten offices had a very different feel with parents representing their athlete sons gathering to protest the conference’s decision to cancel fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Led by Randy Wade, the father of Ohio State star cornerback Shaun Wade, Buckeyes parents and those representing Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, approximately 30 in total, took a day off from their jobs to be outside the conference offices asking for answers and transparency. After the protest was asked to move down the street by police officers, parents took turns in front of the microphones of dozens of media members to speak their mind on the Big Ten’s decision.
