
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State football players who choose to play in a potential 2020-21 season will not have to play the eligibility guessing game. The NCAA Board of Directors approved a proposal from the Division I Council allowing fall sport athletes to compete in the 2020-21 athletic calendar without using a year of eligibility. Previously, a senior worried about having their final season of eligibility end early with no chance of getting that year back might have been tempted to sit out. The NCAA’s ruling provides some relief. Additionally, fall athletes who take advantage of that extra year of eligibility will not count against their programs’ scholarship limits. As with a similar ruling last spring, it will be up to each individual school whether it allows those athletes to return and, perhaps more to the point, whether it funds the additional scholarships.
