COLUMBUS, Ohio — In Ryan Day’s first season as Ohio State’s head football coach in 2019, the playing time decisions were rather obvious. Justin Fields was the quarterback and J.K. Dobbins the running back. Once senior Branden Bowen beat out Nicholas Petit-Frere in camp for the right tackle spot, the offensive line locked into place. K.J. Hill was the slot receiver and the two outside receiver spots rotated. Top two tight ends Luke Farrell and Jeremy Ruckert played equally and a lot. On defense, All-American Chase Young was on the field constantly and five other defensive ends rotated fairly evenly on the other side and as Young’s backups.
