
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Florida, California and Texas together are now home to more than 1 million people who were born in Ohio, the top destinations for Buckeye natives beyond bordering states. New estimates for 2019 released earlier this month by the Census Bureau say that that close to 1-in-3 native Ohioans now live elsewhere in the United States. That’s 3.7 million people in comparison to the 8.7 Ohio natives still living in the state. No. 1 should be no surprise. An estimated 542,969 Ohio natives now live in Florida, a combination of retirees and people who have gone there for work. Second is California with an estimated 262,878 Ohio natives, followed by Kentucky (235,381), Texas (225,801), Indiana (203,894), Michigan (197,478), North Carolina (173,990) and Georgia (162,259).
