Ohio State-Illinois football game canceled due to COVID-19


Ohio State’s football game with Illinois Saturday has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Buckeyes program. The school announced the news late Friday, several hours after announcing that head coach Ryan Day had tested positive for the virus and would not travel with the team this weekend. However, further positive tests within the team and staff forced the suspension of all football activities, including Saturday’s game with the Illini. “We have continued to experience an increase in positive tests over the course of this week,” Ohio State athletics director Gene Smith said. “The health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes is our main concern, and our decisions on their welfare will continue to be guided by our medical staff.” Ohio State is 4-0 and ranked No. 4 nationally, but has now had a second game in three weeks canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
