EAST LANSING, Michigan — Three observations from No. 3 Ohio State football’s 52-12 victory at Michigan State on Saturday. 1. I’m sure we all have a long list of things we never saw coming in 2020. I never expected Haskell Garrett to emerge as perhaps the most important player on Ohio State football’s defense. Last winter and into the spring, when the coronavirus was still a foreign concept on the fringe or our attention, I wondered if the interior defensive line might be a weak spot for the Buckeyes. Garrett and nose tackle Tommy Togiai were merely solid rotation players to that point in their careers. Could either of them take on a front-line role, and didn’t Ohio State need more contributors behind them to step up as well?
