Ohio State football is the most controversial College Football Playoff contender — as usual: Doug Lesmerises


COLUMBUS, Ohio — There has been one bubble program in the seven-year history of the College Football Playoff. Alabama and Clemson have been comfortably in, with each program making five of the first six playoffs, with only one No. 4 seed among their 10 appearances. No bubble. Of the 130 programs in the highest level of college football, 119 have never made they playoff, and seven have made it once. No bubble. That leaves two other programs — Oklahoma and Ohio State. The Sooners have reached the playoff four times in six seasons and have been the No. 4 seed three of those times. But in 2015 and 2019, that No. 4 seed placement was obvious, and the Sooners, though the last team in, were clearly in. In 2018, there was competition for the last spot, as Oklahoma beat out No. 5 Georgia and … No. 6 Ohio State. So…
