COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s salaried coaching and support staff members received performance bonuses surpassing $4 million for the Buckeyes’ run to the national championship game. All of those individuals also previously agreed to base salary reductions to help with spending cuts related to the coronavirus pandemic. The 5 % salary cut for the football staff alone accounted for nearly $570,000 of the approximately $1 million the athletic department expects to save from the 46 voluntary reductions. However, those football staffers were still paid their contractually agreed-to bonuses. For all of the assistants and top support staff, that came to 38.25 % of their original base salaries. (The voluntary salary reductions extend through June, while the bonuses apply to contract years concluding Jan. 31.)
