Ohio State basketball is finding ways to succeed in January, but real tests are still to come


COLUMBUS, Ohio — January hasn’t been kind to the Ohio State basketball team in recent seasons. During the 2018-19 season, the Buckeyes walked into the new year with a 12-1 record, with that lone loss coming in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge against Syracuse. Then things fell apart, sending a team ranked No. 13 in the country, tumbling down the rankings until it was on the outside looking in. They had five-straight losses to thank for that in a month that ended with a 1-6 record. OSU was no longer an NCAA Tournament lock but a bubble team in search of impressive wins. The following year provided more of the same. An 11-2 start against a much more impressive non-conference schedule as the Buckeyes climbed to as high as No. 2 in the Associated Press poll.
