What’s up with Ohio State football’s Denzel Burke, Marcus Williamson and Josh Proctor? Buckeye Bits


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Denzel Burke’s broad set of athletic talents enticed Ohio State football to recruit him from Scottsdale (Arizona) Saguaro High School. The plan all along was for Burke to play cornerback with the Buckeyes, and he enrolled in January to begin that project. According to defensive backs coach Matt Barnes, Burke is ahead of schedule. “Not that we’re surprised, but I am to a degree just kind of blown away by how far along he looks at times,” Barnes said. “Now, he’s still got a long way to go — don’t get me wrong. But he looks pretty natural in there.” Barnes said Burke has “elite” footwork and patience that surpasses his young age. Both have helped him look smooth early on in press man coverage and the other techniques Barnes and defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs are teaching.
