
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Lathan Ransom was the only Ohio State freshman defensive back to break through the wall to playing time erected by the Buckeye coaching staff’s standards and the complications of coronavirus. By the end of the season, the Arizona native had a real role, in the realest of games. Ohio State entrusted Ransom with nickel back duties in playoff games against Clemson and Alabama. Especially considering that competition level, Ransom held up well. “He hadn’t done a whole bunch leading up to the end of the year,” Ransom said. “So to see him play like that was very encouraging.” Few Buckeyes on defense entered the spring with as much intrigue about what his trajectory might mean for this fall.
