Terry Johnson leaves Ohio State for assistant coaching job at Penn State

When Chris Holtmann came to Ohio State from Butler, he brought with him his assistant coaching staff of Ryan Pedon, Terry Johnson and Mike Schrage. Holtmann’s staff is down to just one original member. After Schrage’s departure to become the head coach at Elon ahead of the 2019-20 season, Johnson is now moving on as well. The Buckeyes assistant is not going far, however, as he will remain in the Big Ten and join Matt Painter’s staff at Purdue. This news was first reported by Jeff Goodman of Stadium and confirmed by Bucknuts before Purdue made it official. Johnson, who didn’t originally have an interest in coaching basketball and believed he would be a baseball player, began his coaching professional at what is now Fort Wayne in 1997 as a student assistant.
