Drafting the 12 true freshmen who will help Ohio State football the most this season


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Last season, no true freshmen played consistent major roles in helping the Ohio State Buckeyes reach the college football playoff. Receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming had moments — like Fleming starting the Big Ten Championship Game when Chris Olave was sidelined for COVID reasons. And defensive back Lathan Ransom played more than 25 snaps in the playoff semifinal win over Clemson. Then running back Miyan Williams had a handful of carries that mattered in the playoff. But not much. In 2019, receiver Garrett Wilson and defensive end Zach Harrison, two five-star recruits, both had real roles as regular members of the rotations at their positions, playing as much as almost any upperclassmen.
