Ohio State tops Northwestern in OT to advance to Big Ten field hockey championship game

Staff reports  |  The Columbus Dispatch IOWA CITY, Iowa — Tess Maloney scored in overtime to give Ohio State a 2-1 victory over Northwestern in the semifinals of the Big Ten field hockey tournament on Thursday. The Buckeyes, the No. 7 seed, are in the championship game for the first time since 2008. They will face top-seeded Michigan at noon Saturday. The game will be televised on BTN. OSU is 7-8 and has won seven of its past eight games. Mackenzie Allessie’s 15th goal of the season tied the game 1-1 in the fourth quarter. Maloney’s game-winner was a tip-in of a shot off the stick of Leanne Bough. Ohio State outshot Northwestern 11-7.
