Son of Ohio State basketball great on his own path as Michigan State golfer with PGA potential


MUSKEGON, MI – As the son of a former Ohio State University basketball star, Troy Taylor II has rubbed elbows with numerous Buckeyes sports legends. Having grown up in a Columbus suburb, Taylor has seen the likes of Archie Griffin, Clark Kellogg, Jim Jackson and Scoonie Penn on a somewhat regular basis. But, despite the allure of his father’s OSU fame and connections, Taylor is carving his own path. He is making a name for himself in “that state up north” in a different sport. One day after he wrapped up a successful junior season with the Michigan State University golf team, the 21-year-old from Westerville, Ohio, earned medalist honors in a U.S. Open local qualifier with a 6-under 66 Monday at Muskegon Country Club.
