
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Chris Holtmann understood the question: “Where is Ohio State going to find a big man to add to its 2021-22 roster?” He even provided an answer. No, it wasn’t the solution many hoped for, as Efton Reid is headed to LSU. There’s an obvious talent gap between the 5-star center and the player who will attempt to fill the need. But Holtmann did solve a problem. The Buckeyes couldn’t defend post players in 2020-21. Every other night, they seemed to be playing an elite level big man. Their solution was to throw either a veteran big with a history of health problems, a true freshman or an undersized power forward. To no one’s surprise, it rarely worked.
