CLEVELAND, Ohio — New Era swung for the fences when it introduced a line of locally-inspired Major League Baseball team caps on Tuesday, but the hats themselves fell flat. Pulled off the company’s website less than 24 hours after they were announced, the “Local Market Edition” caps featured logos and iconography inspired by the regions surrounding each MLB team. The Indians version of the cap featured embroidered images inspired by Rock ‘n Roll, the Buckeye State and even local delicacies such as pierogi. Almost as soon as they were released, the designs were subject to ridicule across all social media platforms. New Era, the official cap supplier, was attempting to connect with fans through all of the things that make Cleveland great.
