COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jonathon Cooper’s fitting selection as Ohio State football’s first Block O recipient continued to show up through April’s NFL Draft. After the Denver Broncos selected the defensive end in the seventh round, the word spread quickly in his Gahanna neighborhood. Several local children came running up the block to Cooper’s home to congratulate him. The Block O memorializes Bill Willis, a Columbus native who returned to his hometown to work with children following his Hall of Fame college football and NFL careers. Cooper’s captaincy, emotional leadership and sacrifice already made him an obvious Block O selection. Then he elevated that honor by playing the best football of his career. He led the Buckeyes with 3.5 sacks and led all defensive linemen with 24 tackles.
