It goes without saying that the battle to replace Justin Fields as Ohio State’s starting quarterback is the single biggest storyline going into the start of preseason camp on Tuesday. But close observers of the program will also be looking for signs that the Ohio State defense has made substantial improvement from what was, at beat, an uneven effort in 2020. Granted, the 2020 season was marred by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic – both with the Big Ten delaying the start of the year until late-October, having three games canceled due to the virus and missing key players at key moments due to positive Covid tests.
