
COLUMBUS, Ohio — When sculptor Gutzon Borglum chose the presidents featured on Mount Rushmore, he matched them to four themes — birth, growth, development and preservation. The quarterbacks voted onto our Mount Buckmore followed similar themes. Rex Kern, quarterback of the 1968 Super Sophs national champions, represents OSU’s heritage. Troy Smith represents the resurgence of OSU into a national brand. J.T. Barrett or Braxton Miller, depending on your preference, bridged the gap to the modern Buckeyes’ Big Ten dominance. Then comes development and the future, best represented by Justin Fields. In two seasons, Fields guided OSU back to the playoffs, went to New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist and made his case as the most talented quarterback in program history.
