
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Marcus Williamson is no longer a slot cornerback, though neither is anyone else on the Ohio State football roster. “I’m a cover safety,” the fifth-year “super senior” said Monday. Williamson, though, will play essentially the same position he started at in 2020. For now, the demise of the slot cornerback term in favor of cover safety might mostly be about semantics. Ohio State will have a second safety on the field, but that player will still play predominantly in the box, with a single-high free safety roaming the back of the defense. If you really want to get technical, Ohio State will often have a third safety on the field. The hybrid Bullet position projects to be a big part of the base defense.
