COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State football team got to the national championship game last season despite its inability to keep teams from succeeding in the passing game. The Buckeyes were the only team in the Big Ten to allow 300 or more passing yards per game last season, and ranked 123 nationally. They were 58.8 yards worse than the 245.2 yards they gave up every weekend during the horrendous 2018 season. Despite all of that, defensive backs coach Matt Barnes confidently reiterated the point head coach Ryan Day has harped on for nine months: that there’s no need for drastic changes in approach.
