
COLUMBUS, Ohio — By now, an intimidating pass rush seems essential to Ohio State football as buckeye stickers, Skull Session and Script Ohio. All of those traditions have been on display in full force in Ohio Stadium through three games. The pass rush, however, remains unaccounted for. Ohio State ranks 97th nationally with 1.33 sacks per game thus far. That trend — which is all we can call it after only three games — is astonishingly low by the program’s standards, even compared to previous down years. The Buckeyes recorded no sacks in the Oregon loss, breaking a streak of 26 consecutive games with a sack that dated back to 2018. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson, who oversaw Ohio State’s recent parade of star pass rushers, believes he identified the problem.
