True freshman Kyle McCord will start Saturday night’s game at quarterback for Ohio State against Akron, the Big Ten Network reported. BTN is broadcasting the game. McCord was the first quarterback to take pregame throwing reps. McCord is the fourth true freshman to start at quarterback for Ohio State. Art Schlichter started in 1978, Terrelle Pryor in 2008 and Braxon Miller in 2011. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said on Thursday that starter C.J. Stroud would likely be used only in an emergency so he can rest his injured shoulder. That left McCord or Miller to take his place. Miller is a redshirt freshman who, like Stroud, saw limited action last year but did not throw a pass.
