Ohio State trends away from three 2023 southern DBs, towards a fourth: Buckeyes Recruiting Roundup


COLUMBUS, Ohio — It’s been a rather forgetful week for Ohio State football’s recruiting efforts with 2023 defensive backs — particularly those from southern states. However, the Buckeyes coaching staff is working to combat it. On Monday, Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) High School five-star junior cornerback Tony Mitchell (6-2, 180 pounds) eliminated the Buckeyes from his latest favorites list. The No. 11 player and No. 2 CB in 2023, Mitchell named a top seven of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and Oregon. Mitchell was offered by Ohio State on Feb. 23, and eventually put the Buckeyes in his top 10. He cited his relationship with defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs, as well as the Buckeyes’ history of defensive back development as why he was interested.
