Women’s hockey: Gophers fall to Ohio State in season opener

Ohio State scored three straight goals and got strong goaltending from Andrea Braendli on Friday night as the Buckeyes beat No. 4 Minnesota 4-2 in the women’s hockey season opener at Ridder Arena. Braendli stepped up big after allowing a goal in the first period. Each Gophers rush was shut down by the senior goaltender. Braendli finished the night with 34 saves. “She was great, not a lot of second and third chance opportunities. When we did have those opportunities, somehow it stayed out of the net,” Gophers coach Brad Frost said. “She played really solid.” The second period was dominated by Ohio State as the Buckeyes tallied two more goals.
