
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s offense did whatever it wanted through the air while its defense took another step forward in a 66-17 win over Maryland. Oregon has been the only team to keep the Buckeyes under 40 points. It marked the third time they’d gone over 50 and the first time they’ve scored at least 60 points since the last time they played Maryland in 2019 in a 73-14 win. The defense still had its moments of weakness, allowing the Terrapins to find some level of success, but put together a quality outing for the most part, led by the play of Steele Chambers, Cody Simon and Ronnie Hickman. The two linebackers led OSU with seven tackles each while Hickman added six. Ohio State didn’t look like a team capable of competing at a high level at the start of the season.
