Ohio State football’s Thayer Munford a Lombardi Award semifinalist


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Thayer Munford’s second senior season has already been a memorable one — graduating with his undergraduate degree in August, moving to left guard for the benefit of the team and receiving the Block O jersey for his leadership. He added another prestigious honor Wednesday when he was named one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award. It is given annually to the player “who best embodies the values and spirit” of NFL coaching legend Vince Lombardi. Until 2016, the award was presented to the nation’s top offensive lineman, defensive lineman or linebacker. Since then, players of any position have been eligible. Munford was a three-year starter at left tackle who moved inside during preseason camp when the Buckeyes reconfigured the entire offensive line. He has helped OSU rank No. 1 nationally in total offense (563.2 yards per game), No. 3 in scoring offense (48.5 points per game)…
