Ohio State’s Thayer Munford came into the 2021 season as one of the most highly thought of offensive linemen in the country. His play this year has only backed up that thinking. On Wednesday, Munford was named one of 12 semifinalists for the 48th Lombardi Award by the Rotary Club of Houston. The Lombardi Award was originally awarded annually to the best college football offensive or defensive lineman in the nation but the criteria for the award has since been changed to any player who exhibits “outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the character and discipline of Vince Lombardi.” Despite playing four seasons for the Buckeyes, Munford elected to return this year, after the NCAA announced the 2020 COVID-altered season would not count against a student-athlete’s eligibility.
