COLUMBUS, Ohio — If the 12-team college football playoff were already a reality, Ohio State would likely carry decent odds to still wind up as the national champion. Instead, the Buckeyes will prepare for a consolation Rose Bowl and their first postseason out of the playoff in three years. Ohio State would probably be favored on a neutral field over some of the teams I ranked them below this week. Based on what has been proven on the field, however, the wins simply aren’t there for the Buckeyes. Depending on the playoff results, OSU may actually end up in the top four of the season-ending polls. That can endure as a reminder of what could have been for maybe the best offense a Buckeye team ever put on the field.
